Reunion 2018

Details

The 50-year anniversary 2018 reunion was held at The Black Boy, Shinfield (RG2 9BP) on Saturday, 14th April, 2018 for lunch. Dinner was held in a function room at the Holiday Inn, Reading South (RG2 0SL). The hotel has had a refurbishment and looks and feels better, with rooms good, but bath/shower rooms tiny! However, the breakfast had the usual feel of having been left there overnight and warmed-up for the morning

It was good seeing everybody again (see attendee list below) and specially Ray and Sheryl Willis … after 50 years, but sorry that Tony Lewis couldn’t make it.

Des has a million entertaining stories of service life … and we must have heard at least 10 percent of them this reunion. Greg was as ebullient as ever and Keith was, as usual, immaculately dressed, except at breakfast, when we thought a vagrant had wandered in looking for a free meal.

Jacquie, John South, Jill and I were busy complaining about the whole world and everything as is our wont … but Jacquie couldn’t see the hugely amusing side of initially being charged for my steak (which incidentally was ‘tuff as boots’) … and there we were thinking that ex-servicewomen could take whatever was flung at them!

John and Liz took bookings and then conducted guided tours around their latest caravanette and Sue and John Robinson came from lovely Lincoln, braving the horrors of witnessing an overturned, burnt-out car on their way over.

It was mooted that we may try to look elsewhere for accommodation for next year. Best Western has been mentioned but more on this later hopefully. Also, the Black Boy might be an option for an evening meal again?
